The College jacket was the American version of the British school blazer and its' roots go back to the 1930's where visiting teams and their supporters would wear their zipper jackets in college colours with additional badges and embroideries to personalise them. Through the 1950's they became a uniform of the college student and were kept after leaving as mementos.
